Top 10 Fastest Airplanes in the World 2015

Top 10 Fastest Airplanes in the World 2015.

1.Falcon HTV-2

Falcon HTV-2 is currently the fastest airplane in the world 2015. It is the first plane to ever reach a speed of more than 10,000 mph. First launched in April 2010, Falcon HTV-2 was powered by Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 which helped it achieve a speed of 13,000 mph. Falcon HTV-2 was initially developed to respond to any potential terrorist threats in a matter of seconds. The only disadvantage this plane has is that it is unmanned and there is still nothing known about the manned Falcon HTV-2 or will there be any in the upcoming years. But whatever the case is, Falcon HTV-2 is at the top of the list of top .

2.X-15

X-15 set a number of records for top speed and highest altitudes in 1960s as it achieved a top speed of 4,520 mph at an altitude of more than 62 miles. X-15 also holds the record for the fastest speed ever recorded by a manned aircraft. It was a part of the x-plane fleet which was an experimental aircraft operation jointly run by NASA and US Air Force. X-15 was taken off the fleet in 1970 as other aircraft were featured into the operation.

3.SR-71 Blackbird

SR-71 Blackbird was also developed by Lockheed in 1960s under the project called ‘black project. The project was highly classified as the aircraft was being designed to trace down potential threats during reconnaissance missions. Its purpose was to outfly the air missiles fired at it. SR-71 was capable of reaching a top speed of more than 2,200 mph at a height of 24,400 meters. The performance and achievements of the SR-71 Blackbird makes it one of the best aircraft in the world and also includes it in the list of top ten fastest airplanes in the world 2015.

4.Lockheed YF-12

Lockheed YF-12 was developed by Lockheed Corporation during the early 1960s. It was a two-person aircraft that was built to track down enemy aircraft flying at Mach 3 speeds. It was first built as a prototype aircraft for this purpose but after fully testing it over Area 51 in US, it was deployed by the US Air Force. Lockheed YF-12 has a top speed of 2,070 mph at an altitude of 24,400 meters. The speed is less than that of MiG-25 Foxbat but it is because of its higher altitude. With such qualities, Lockheed YF-12 is the 4th fastest aircraft in the world in 2015.

5.MiG-25 Foxbat

MiG-25 is in the middle of the list of top 10 fastest airplanes in the world 2015. Designed to intercept enemy aircraft at supersonic speeds and to collect reconnaissance data, MiG-25 is also one of the fastest military aircraft in the world. MiG-25 Foxbat first flew in 1964. It has an incredible top speed of 2,190 mph. It is still used by the Russian Air Force and few other nations including Algeria and Syria.

6.Bell X-2

Bell X-2, also known as Starbuster, was the first rocket-power airplane developed by Bell Aircraft Corporation in collaboration with the US Air Force and NASA in 1945. It was basically a research aircraft intended to fix the aerodynamic issues occurring in supersonic flights which fly at Mach 2 to Mach 3 speed range. Bell X-2 achieved a maximum speed of 2,094 mph at a height of 19,800 meters above ground. Even though the research program was abandoned after few years, it still remains as one of the fastest airplane in the world..

7.XB-70 Valkyrie

XB-70 Valkyrie was designed by North America Aviation during 1950s as a nuclear armed strategic bomber. XB 70 Valkyrie achieved its maximum speed of 2,000 mph at an altitude of 21,300 meters in 1965. The only XB-70 Valkyrie left on earth is displayed at the National Museum of US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.

8.MiG-31 Foxhound

MiG-31 Foxhound is one of the fastest airplanes in the world. Carrying a twine-engine, this supersonic airplane was designed to chase down foreign planes flying at high speeds. It was first introduced in the Soviet Air Defense Force in 1982 and was used in Afghanistan war. It can achieve a maximum speed of 1,860 mph. MiG-31 is still deployed by the Russian Air Force for its defense.

9.F–15 Eagle

F-15 Eagle is currently one of the most commonly used aircraft in the world. Designed in 1967 by McDonnell Douglas, countries including US, UK, France, Israel, and Japan etc. are currently using F 16 Eagle in the army. F-15 Eagle is capable of flying at a high altitude of 10,000 meters with a maximum speed of 1,650 mph. F-15 Eagle has a robust control system that makes it even more powerful and helps it achieve the desired speed limit. It is a part of the US Air Force and is expected to keep its place till 2025.

10.Aardvark F-111

Aardvark F-111 is the 10th fastest airplane in the world 2015. It can carry up to 24 nuclear bombs and several other small missiles. Aardvark F-111 was designed by General Dynamic Company. Aardvark F-111 can reach a top speed of 1,650 mph. F-111 Aardvark was widely used during the Vietnam War but was discarded by the US Air Force in 1998. This airplane is not manufactured now but it has served as the basis for the modern aircraft with supersonic speeds.
