Dargah Of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, New Delhi

About The Dargah-
Nizamuddin Dargah is shrine of famous Sufi saint "Nizamuddin Auliya". Dargah is located in Nizamuddin (Western) part of Delhi. Dargah is visited by thousands of people every day; people from every religion visit there to feel a true Sufi tradition.  Kawallis are organized daily, but on Thursdays & Sundays there is some special touch. On Thursdays & Sundays there is also Langar (Food) seva for all devotees. Food is made purely vegetarian because of people visit there from all religions including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians. 

Shrine of Amir Khusro (disciple of Hazrat Nizamuddin) is also located beside the Hazrat Nizamuddin Shrine. Area nearby to Dargah also covers famous Ghalib library, Mirza Ghalib Tomb and Lal Mehal.


History-
Hazrat Nizamuddin was a famous saint of the Sufi Chishti Order which has a large following in the Indian subcontinent. He was a spiritual successor of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti of Ajmer. His full name was Hazrat Shaikh Khwaja Syed Muhammad Nizamuddin Auliya and was honoured with titles like Sultan-ul-Mashaikh, Mehboob-e-Ilahi. Considered fifth amongst the big five of the Chisti order in India, the Auliya was born in 1238 and breathed his last on April 3, 1325.

Structure-
The structure consists of a square chamber surrounded by verandahs, which are pierced by arched openings. The dome on top of the tomb is decorated by vertical stripes of black marble and is crowned by a lotus-cresting
Some of the other structures inside the mausoleum complex are the Jama’at- Khana Masjid, Chini Ka Burj, Mirza Ghalib’s Tomb, Kalan-Masjid, Khan-I-Jahan Tilangani’s Tomb, Ataga Khan’s Tomb, Chaunsath Khamba, Lal-Mahal, Khan-I-Khanan’s Tomb and Barapula.

Tips For Enter In Dargah-
  1. You need to remove your shoes and cover your head before entering the Dargah.
  2. Females are not allowed to enter the main shrine.
  3. To attend the qawwali, reach the Dargah by 7:00 pm on Thursday as it gets crowded.
  4. Relish some lazeez (delicious) kebabs in the market nearby.

One can visit the Dargah any day, but every Thursday, special Qawwali programmes are organised at Nizamuddin Dargah and it is adorned with beautiful lights. 
Even Bollywood has dedicated and shot traditional qawwalis at the Dargah, latest one being the “kun faya kun” from the movie Rockstar. Islamic festivals including Urs and the death anniversary of the Sufi saint, Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusrao are celebrated here.
