Kullu For Trekking Lovers, Himachal Pradesh

Among the loftiness of the grand Himalayas and the gushing ambience of the river Beas, Kullu is in the state of Himachal Pradesh and is also called the ‘Valley of Gods’. Previously known as Kulanthpitha, which means 'the end point of the inhabitable world', this wonderful valley has its name in epics such as Ramayana, Mahabharata and Vishnu Purana. Kullu was not an easily reachable place till the 1950's which helped to conserve its untouched appeal and centurys old customs. History-
Kullu (1220m) was once known as Kulanthapitha - the end of the habitable world. Beyond rose the forbidding heights of the Greater Himalaya, and by the banks of the shining river Beas lay the fabled Silver Valley. 

Kullu got its first motorable access only after independence. The long centuries of seclusion have however allowed the area to retain a considerable measures of its traditional charm. Here is the core of an intricate web of numerous valleys, each of which is a visual delight and seems more beautiful than the other.

Trekking Attraction-
Kullu valley provides easiest as well as adventurous trekking paths to trekking lovers. Most of the routes pass though rugged and unspoiled beautiful valleys with awes inspiring glens, mossy meadows, deep forests inter woven by rushing streams and running brooks. Kullu-Manali valleys are full of real mountains and give comparatively easy access to them.
April to mid June and mid September to mid October is the best season for trekking. Tourist Development Corporation of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Department of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali and some other agencies arrange trekking expeditions. 
The charges include hiring of equipment, porters, transportations, meals and medical facilities and optionally, the approved high altitude guides and porters can also be hired. The accommodation in HPPWD-Rest Houses or Forest Rest House can be arranged through XEN or SE, PWD and Divisional Forest Office (DFO) of that area. 

Places To Visit In Kullu-
RAGHUNATH TEMPLE :In the 17th century, Raja Jagat Singh of Kullu committed a great wrong. To atone for the sin, he sent a courtier to Ayodhya for a statue of Lord Ragunath (Lord Rama). This temple was built by Raja Jagat Singh to house the image and is greatly revered.
BIJLI MAHADEV TEMPLE (14 km):
At 2460m, this is set on a spur that offers some spectacular views. The temple is famous for its high staff that periodically draws lighting which shatters the Linga and scorches the building. Using only butter as adhesive, the Linga is then carefully pieced together by the temple pundit.

BASHESHWAR MAHADEV TEMPLE BAJURA (15 KM) :One of the most charming temple in Kullu, this is renowned for its intricate stone carvings.
OTHER TEMPLES :
The Vaishno Devi temple (4km), the Devi Jagannath Temple at Bekhli (5 km) and the Vishnu temple at Dayar (12 km) are other important shrines around Kullu.

Events/Festivals in Kull-
Dussehra or Kullu Dussehra:It is commonly known is the main festival in Kullu that is conducted with great fanfare and enjoyment.
Conducted in the month of May at the 'Valley of Gods'- Kullu, the Doongri Fair is a popular event which is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in the region. It is one of the major festivals in Kullu.
