History-
Chamba is the only state in northern India to preserve a well documented history from circa 500 A.D. Its high mountain ranges have given it a sheltered position and helped in preserving its centuries old relics and numerous inscriptions. The temples erected by rajas of Chamba more than a thousand years age continue to be under worship.

The town is known for its spectacular temple architecture and splendid natural beauty. The town is situated amongst beautiful valleys and has tourists visiting the place throughout the year. The area has rich flora and fauna in the Sub Himalayan ranges and is known for a pleasant climate throughout the year. The temples, lakes, and wildlife sanctuaries in the region makes it an ideal tourist destination. This place is also known as the Land of Shiva.


How To Reach There-
Chamba is connected by road and is 580 km from Delhi. It is 24 km from Khajjiar, Dalhousie via Khajjair, is 56 km. The closest railhead is at Pathankot, 118 km away. The airport at Gaggal in Kangra is at a distance of 170 km. Taxis/buses are available from these places.


Places You Should Visit-
LAXMI NARAYAN TEMPLE COMPLEX :
With six main Shikhara style temples and several smaller shrines, this is renowned for its finely executed classical forms.

OTHER TEMPLES :The profusion of temples in Chamba and their craftsmanship is remarkable. Some important shrines are Champavati, Vijreshwari, Sui Mata and Chamunda Devi.


THE CHOWGEN :Chamba's wide concourse is the hub of much of towns activity and also serves as its promenade.

AKHAND CHANDI PALACE :
Now a college, this imposing building once housed Chamba's ruling family. Much of the original craftsmanship can still be seen.

Events / Festivals in Chamba
Minjair Festival : Minjair Festival in Chamba is a week-long festival celebrated in the month of July or August every year. It is celebrated in the month of Shravan according to Hindu calendar. It takes place in the Chaugan area which is converted into market place during the festival. The festival attracts visitors and participants from all across the country. This colourful festival is marked by processions of various deities. People dress up in silk tassel. The procession of the festival begins at Akhand Chandi Palace and terminates at the Police Lines Nalhora.
