Apple introduces the 9.7-inch iPad Pro with an A9X processor and Apple Pencil support

"The new iPad Pro model sports a 12MP rear snapper and the TouchID fingerprint sensor"

At its Spring event in Cupertino, Apple unveiled the hotly-anticipated 4-inch iPhone SE. In addition, the company has also introduced a 9.7-inch iPad Pro model. The smaller iPad Pro shares quite a few specs with its 12.9-inch counterpart, which was unveiled last year.

The new iPad Pro comes with Apple Pencil compatibility, and sports a connector on its side for attaching the Smart Keyboard.

Similar to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 9.7-inch variant sports four speakers. It offers the same 2,732 x 2,048 pixel display resolution, which makes it sharper than the 12.9-inch variant. A new TrueTone display technology adjusts the temperature of the screen depending on the ambient light. The iPad Pro is powered by Apple's top-of-the-line A9X processor which debuted on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

In the camera department, the new iPad Pro features a 12MP iSight camera with a TrueTone LED flash, Focus Pixels and 4K video recording, as well as a 5MP front camera with Retina Flash. The tablet comes with Apple TouchID fingerprint sensor integrated into the home button, and runs iOS 9.3.

Similar to the previous-gen iPads, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro will be available in Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants. It comes in Silver, Gold, Space Grey and a new Rose Gold colour.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in 32GB, 128GB and an all-new 256GB variant. The Wi-Fi variants of these models are priced at $549, $799 and $899 respectively. The slate goes on sale starting March 31st, with pre-orders kicking off from March 24th.
